Transient chaos in time-delayed systems subjected to parameter drift

Abstract External and internal factors may cause a system’s parameter to vary with time before it stabilizes. This drift induces regime shift when the crosses bifurcation. Here, we study case of an infinite dimensional system: time-delayed oscillator whose delay varies at small but non-negligible rate. Our research shows that due this drift, trajectories from chaotic attractor tip other states certain probability. causes appearance phenomenon transient chaos. By using ensemble approach, find gamma distribution lifetimes, unlike in non-delayed systems where normal distributions have been found govern process. Furthermore, analyze how change rate influences tipping probability, derive scaling law relating value for which takes place lifetime chaos
